The Saudi Al-Watan newspaper is issued by the Aseer Press and Publishing Corporation, for which the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz (may God have mercy on him) laid its foundation stone in the city of Abha on May 8, 1998 AD. His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz (may God have mercy on him) inaugurated the Foundation’s building and the printing center on July 7, 2000 AD. Whereas, His Royal Highness Prince Khalid Al-Faisal bin Abdulaziz launched the first issue on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Chairman of the Supreme Media Council at the time, His Royal Highness Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz (may God have mercy on him) on the thirtieth of September 2000 AD. Al-Watan newspaper is the first local daily newspaper based on an integrated scientific study, and the first newspaper in the Arab region for which a previous scientific study and a comprehensive study were conducted by 40 researchers.
